Calculated result
Formula and worked example
Quality points per course = grade points × credits. GPA = total quality points ÷ total GPA-eligible credits. Weighted GPA adds each entered bonus before multiplying by credits.
An A in a 3-credit course and a B in a 4-credit course produce 24 quality points across 7 credits, or 3.429.
Calculations keep full internal precision and display results to three decimal places without rounding individual course quality points first.
Default and custom grade scales
The editable default maps A+ and A to 4.0; A− to 3.7; B+ to 3.3; B to 3.0; B− to 2.7; C+ to 2.3; C to 2.0; C− to 1.7; D+ to 1.3; D to 1.0; D− to 0.7; and F to 0.0. It is a practical starting point, not an official universal scale.
Weighted, pass/fail, and repeated courses
Enter an editable bonus of 0 through 5 for each weighted course. When any bonus is used, both weighted and unweighted results appear. Pass, withdrawal, and incomplete grades are not assigned points; exclude any course your school excludes. Enter the courses and grades your school includes because this calculator does not automatically apply grade-replacement policies.
Semester, college, and high-school GPA
The arithmetic works for one semester or many courses, for college or high school, when you supply the applicable scale, credits, and bonuses. No school-specific policy is assumed.
School policy matters
Schools calculate GPA differently. Check your school's grading policy if you need an official GPA. This tool is arithmetic, not registrar, academic-advising, admissions, scholarship, or transcript guidance.
