How to use this calculator

Formula and method
Required final score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. Resulting grade = current grade × (1 − final weight) + final score × final weight.
Worked example
With an 82% current grade and a final worth 25%, a target of 85% requires 94% on the final: (85 − 82 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 94.
Assumptions and result interpretation
- The current grade represents all coursework outside the final.
- The entered final weight is greater than 0% and no more than 100%.
- Extra credit, category weighting, dropped scores, curves, and rounding policies are not inferred.
- A required score above 100% is reported as mathematically possible only if the course permits such scores.
Understanding the result
A result over 100% means the target cannot be reached under an ordinary 100-point final, while a result at or below 0% means the target is already secured under the entered weighting.
Common mistakes
- Entering the non-final weight instead of the final weight
- Using a current grade that already includes the final
- Assuming every instructor rounds the same way
- Treating an above-100 result as automatically attainable
