Cumulative GPA Calculator

Combine an existing cumulative GPA with a new term, or estimate the future GPA needed to reach a target. Results may differ from an institution when the current reported GPA was already rounded.

Enter values and select Calculate.

Formula and worked example

New cumulative GPA = (current GPA × completed credits + term GPA × term credits) ÷ combined credits. Target mode solves the same equation for the required future GPA.

A 3.5 GPA over 60 credits plus a 4.0 term over 15 credits produces 270 quality points across 75 credits, or 3.600.

Calculations keep full internal precision and display results to three decimal places without rounding individual course quality points first.

Why this is an estimate

A reported current GPA such as 3.47 may already be rounded from a more precise institutional value. Combining that rounded number produces a useful estimate, not an exact transcript calculation.

Target GPA mode

Target mode calculates the average needed over the future credits entered. Its maximum-GPA field defaults to 4.0 and is editable for weighted systems. A result above that value is described as exceeding the entered maximum, not universally impossible.

No previous credits?

This tool requires completed GPA credits. If you do not have a previous GPA, use the GPA Calculator for the courses you have now.

School policy matters

Schools calculate GPA differently. Check your school's grading policy if you need an official GPA. This tool is arithmetic, not registrar, academic-advising, admissions, scholarship, or transcript guidance.
