How it works
A supporting browser decodes the AVIF pixels locally. Canvas paints those pixels onto a solid background and creates a new image/jpeg Blob; no remote converter participates.
Output, dimensions, and metadata
JPEG cannot preserve AVIF alpha. Transparent areas are deliberately flattened onto the selected background, white by default. JPEG output is lossy. Exported images may not retain source metadata or color profiles; do not rely on metadata preservation. The exported image follows the browser-decoded visual orientation. Browser Canvas may normalize color behavior, so this is a practical conversion rather than a promise of professional ICC-profile equivalence.
Browser compatibility and limits
AVIF decoding depends on the browser and operating system. The tool uses feature-detected native decoding and shows an unsupported-browser message when this runtime cannot decode the file.
Files are limited to 25 MB, 40 megapixels, and 12,000 pixels per side. Replace or reset an image to release the prior decoded buffer.
