Method and worked example
A recognized orcid.org wrapper and formatting hyphens are removed. The first 15 digits are processed using the published ISO/IEC 7064 MOD 11-2 algorithm and compared with the final digit or X.
0000-0002-1825-0097 has a calculated check digit of 7 and is returned in canonical groups with its orcid.org URL.
Scope and limitations
Checksum validity does not establish that an ORCID record exists, belongs to a person, or represents a verified identity. No registry request occurs.
