Method and example
Citation.js parses common BibTeX and RIS records into normalized CSL data, then serializes the selected output format. RIS-to-BibTeX keys use a deterministic author-year-title-word model with numeric collision suffixes.
An article with two authors, journal, year, pages, and DOI retains those shared semantics when converted to RIS and back to BibTeX.
Scope and limitations
BibTeX and RIS have different data models. Conversion may normalize or omit fields with no direct equivalent; byte-identical round trips are not claimed.
Input is limited to 5 MB UTF-8 and remains inert text. Review normalized records and citations before using them.
