Formula and worked example

The selected solid determines the formula: lwh for a rectangular prism, s³ for a cube, πr²h for a cylinder, 4⁄3πr³ for a sphere, or ⅓πr²h for a cone.

A 2 by 3 by 4 rectangular prism has volume 24 cubic units. A cylinder with radius 2 and height 5 has volume 20π, approximately 62.8319 cubic units.

Calculations retain floating-point precision and use controlled display formatting. Decimal results involving π are approximations.

Cubic conversion policy

Every entered dimension is converted linearly before multiplication.

The resulting conversion factor is cubed: one cubic foot equals 1,728 cubic inches.

Rounded decimal displays are approximations when π is involved.

Methodology and limits

Formulas are standard Euclidean geometry. Length conversions follow exact defined factors, including 1 inch = 0.0254 meter; area factors are squared and volume factors are cubed. This browser-local tool does not evaluate expressions or infer real-world material needs.
