Simple interest formula

Interest = principal × annual rate × time. Ending amount = principal + interest.

Example: $10,000 at 5% simple interest for 3 years produces $1,500 in interest and a $11,500 ending amount.

No compounding

Simple interest is calculated only on the starting principal. It does not earn interest on prior interest and does not model payment timing, fees, taxes, or a changing rate.

Limits and interpretation

Time may include decimal years. Confirm the time convention and rate basis in any real agreement; actual products may use different day-count, payment, fee, or rounding rules.
