Formula and method
a = 5(C/ATT − 0.3); b = 0.25(YDS/ATT − 3); c = 20(TD/ATT); d = 2.375 − 25(INT/ATT). Clamp each to 0–2.375. Rating = 100(a+b+c+d)/6.
Worked example
For 20 completions on 30 attempts, 250 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception: a = 1.8333, b = 1.3333, c = 1.3333, d = 1.5417. Rating ≈ 100.7.
What the result means
The rating combines completion rate, yards per attempt, touchdown rate, and interception rate. Its conventional one-decimal ceiling is 158.3.
Common input mistakes
- Calling this result Total QBR. It is a different proprietary metric.
- Using rushing or receiving touchdowns instead of passing touchdowns.
- Subtracting sack yards from gross passing yards.
Scope and limitations
This is the traditional NFL passer-rating formula only. It does not measure rushing, sacks, game context, win probability, or predict performance.
This is a deterministic calculation aid, not a player evaluation, prediction, fantasy recommendation, or betting tool. No live statistics are fetched.
