Cross Stitch Calculator

Convert a pattern’s stitch counts into stitched dimensions and a fabric cut size, with Aida and over-two evenweave arithmetic kept explicit.

Method and assumptions

Effective stitches per inch = fabric count ÷ threads crossed per stitch. Stitched width and height equal pattern stitches ÷ effective count. Add twice the per-side extra to each stitched dimension. Aida commonly uses one square per stitch; over-two linen/evenweave uses two fabric threads per stitch. Confirm your pattern’s actual count.

Worked example

A 100 × 140-stitch design on 14-count Aida over one measures 7.143 × 10 inches stitched. With 3 inches extra per side, cut 13.143 × 16 inches of fabric.

Limits of the estimate

This calculator covers dimensions only. It does not select floss strands, needles, hoop size, fabric shrinkage, or framing method.
