Exact relationship and formula
1 U.S. liquid gallon = 4 U.S. liquid quarts exactly. Quarts = gallons × 4.
Reverse mode applies the inverse relationship from the same definition.
Worked example
0.5 U.S. gal = 2 U.S. qt; 2.5 U.S. gal = 10 U.S. qt.
Other gallon and quart systems have different absolute volumes. Do not mix units from different systems, even where the within-system ratio is also 4 to 1.
