Exact relationship and formula
1 yard = 3 feet exactly, so 1 cubic yard = 3³ = 27 cubic feet exactly. Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27.

Worked example
9 ft³ = 1/3 yd³; 13.5 ft³ = 0.5 yd³; 27 ft³ = 1 yd³; 2.5 yd³ = 67.5 ft³.
