How it works
The browser applies the image’s visual orientation, takes the largest centered square crop, and resamples it to 16, 32, 48, 180, 192, and 512 pixels. The ICO file contains PNG-encoded 16, 32, and 48 pixel entries.
Limits and assumptions
JPEG, PNG, and static WebP inputs are supported up to 25 MB, 40 megapixels, and 12,000 pixels per side. The crop is centered and not manually adjustable. Simple square artwork generally remains clearest at small favicon sizes.
