Voltage Divider Calculator

Find the ideal output voltage of a two-resistor divider. Enable a load to see how its parallel resistance changes the result.

Calculate

Enter values and calculate.

Formula and method

Unloaded: Vout = Vin × R2 / (R1 + R2). Loaded: first find Reffective = R2 × RL / (R2 + RL), then replace R2 with Reffective in the divider formula.

Worked example

At 12 V with R1 = R2 = 10 kΩ, unloaded output is 6 V. A 10 kΩ load makes the lower leg 5 kΩ, so loaded output is 4 V.

Limits and safety

Assumes ideal steady resistors and a fixed source voltage. Loading is shown only when enabled. It does not model source impedance, nonlinear loads, tolerance, power, or safety.
