Parallel and Series Resistor Calculator

Combine known resistor values in series or parallel. Enter values with optional units, then see the equivalent resistance and intermediate sum.

Calculate

Enter values and calculate.

Formula and method

Series: Rtotal = ΣRi. Parallel: Rtotal = 1 / Σ(1/Ri). Values are converted to ohms before arithmetic. Zero and negative resistances are rejected.

Worked example

100 Ω + 220 Ω + 330 Ω in series gives 650 Ω. In parallel, 100 Ω and 200 Ω give approximately 66.6667 Ω.

Limits and safety

Ideal equivalent resistance only. Real components have tolerances, temperature behavior, and power limits. Check circuit and component requirements separately.
