How random verse selection works
The default pool gives every eligible verse record one equal selection opportunity. It does not choose books uniformly first, which would overrepresent short books. Old Testament, New Testament, and specific-book filters each select uniformly from only their eligible verse records. Browser cryptographic randomness is used when available with rejection sampling to avoid modulo bias; this is not marketed as a security product.
What is included
The data contains the 39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament books in the World English Bible engwebp 66-book edition. This edition omits the Deuterocanon/Apocrypha. Five source reference markers contain textual-variant footnotes but no displayed verse text, so they remain numbering gaps rather than empty or invented verse records.
Context, lookup, and privacy
Context stays within the selected chapter. Lookup accepts explicit references and common book aliases, including John 3:16, Jn 3:16, Psalm 23:1, and Romans 8:28. Invalid or unknown references receive a clear message. Verse choices, filters, references, copied text, and surrounding context are not written to URLs or browser storage and are not sent to analytics. Only generic tool actions may be counted after analytics consent.
Source and text fidelity
The runtime data is generated deterministically from the official eBible.org USFM archive dated August 26, 2026. The parser removes structural formatting, footnotes, cross-references, headings, and Strong's metadata while preserving the displayed verse wording and source numbering.
