History of Martin County, Minnesota

The Martin County Historical Society dates the county's establishment to May 23, 1857. Its county history identifies Calvin Tuttle and Mr. Rickey among the first settlers in 1856, followed by the first post office in 1858 and first school in 1860.

The society presents Henry Martin as the most likely county namesake while documenting an alternate Morgan Martin theory. This page preserves that uncertainty rather than presenting a disputed naming story as settled fact.
