Words Per Minute Calculator

Calculate words per minute from a known word count and measured elapsed minutes and seconds.

Enter values

The calculator will be ready after its local script initializes.

Formula and method

Total minutes equal whole minutes plus seconds divided by 60. WPM equals word count divided by total minutes. Zero total elapsed time is rejected.

Worked example

300 words in 2 minutes equals 150 WPM. The same 300 words in 1 minute 30 seconds equals 200 WPM.

Limits

The result is pure rate arithmetic. It does not label a rate slow, average, or fast, and it does not assess reading, speaking, or typing quality.
