Formula and worked example

Speed = distance ÷ time. Distance = speed × time. Time = distance ÷ speed.

Traveling 100 miles in 2 hours gives 50 mph. At 60 mph for 2.5 hours, distance is 150 miles.

Calculations retain full internal precision and trim insignificant trailing zeros for display. Irrational square-root results are displayed as useful decimal approximations.

This page does not calculate geographic, driving, road, flight, or map distance.

Zero and physical inputs

Zero distance with positive time produces zero speed.

Division by zero is undefined, so zero time cannot produce speed and zero speed cannot produce travel time for nonzero distance.

Negative distance, time, and speed are rejected for this ordinary physical calculator.

Units and interpretation

Every value is normalized through meters and seconds before conversion.

One mile is exactly 1,609.344 meters and one hour is 3,600 seconds.

The result is arithmetic, not a prediction of traffic, route conditions, acceleration, or travel safety.

This deterministic browser-local tool uses the formula shown above and strict finite-number parsing. Unit relationships follow exact defined constants where applicable. It does not evaluate expressions, execute entered text, call a remote calculation service, or replace technical instruction.
