Method and worked example
For each dimension L, spacing S, and edge margin E, count = floor((L−2E)/S)+1 when L≥2E; otherwise zero positions. Half-spacing mode sets E=S/2. Rows × plants per row gives the total.
Example: A 10 ft × 4 ft bed with 12 in spacing and 6 in half-spacing margins fits 10 plants per row × 4 rows = 40 plants.
Assumptions and limitations
Square grid only. No staggered layout, plant-species spacing recommendation, growth allowance, or yield prediction is included.
All entered measurements remain in this browser. This page does not upload them, add them to URLs, or save them to browser storage.
Common question
Why can the count be zero? With half-spacing edges, a bed dimension shorter than the entered spacing cannot fit a plant center while retaining the specified margins.
