Molality Calculator

Solve molality, moles of solute, or solvent mass using moles per kilogram of solvent.

Calculate

Enter values and calculate.

Formula and method

Molality = moles of solute ÷ kilograms of solvent. Grams of solvent are converted to kilograms before calculation.

Worked example

0.5 mol divided by 2 kg solvent equals 0.25 mol/kg.

Important boundary

Molality uses solvent mass. It is not molarity, which uses liters of final solution.

Common mistake

Use compatible dimensions and distinguish the quantity being solved from the quantities entered. The calculator normalizes supported units before arithmetic and rejects zero, negative, malformed, or unbounded values.
