Formula and method
For each reactant, extent candidate = entered moles ÷ its coefficient. The smallest extent limits the reaction. Theoretical product moles = limiting extent × product coefficient. Optional grams = product moles × entered molar mass.
Worked example
For 2 H₂ + O₂ → 2 H₂O, 3 mol H₂ and 1 mol O₂ give extent candidates 1.5 and 1. Oxygen limits, so the ideal product is 2 mol or 36.03056 g with molar mass 18.01528 g/mol.
Assumptions and limitations
Assumes correctly balanced coefficients and ideal stoichiometric conversion. It does not balance equations, establish reaction feasibility, predict actual yield, or give chemical-handling instructions.
