Method and worked example
Rectangular area is length × width. Base seed equals area × the user-entered rate divided by its rate-area basis. A user-entered buffer multiplies that base by 1 + buffer/100.
Example: 10,000 ft² at an entered 5 lb per 1,000 ft² gives 50 lb; a chosen 10% buffer gives 55 lb.
Assumptions and limitations
The correct rate depends on species, blend, new seeding versus overseeding, product label, region, and method. This calculator does not choose it or guarantee coverage.
All entered measurements remain in this browser. This page does not upload them, add them to URLs, or save them to browser storage.
Common question
Where should the rate come from? Use the applicable seed label, supplier, or trusted local extension guidance.
