Formula and method
Divide the numerator by the denominator. Track each remainder; a repeated remainder marks the start of the repeating decimal cycle.
Worked example
For 1/6, long division produces 0.1 and then repeats remainder 4, so the exact display is 0.1(6).

- Inputs are exact integers with up to 100 digits per component.
- Repeating cycles display up to 200 digits.
- Longer unresolved cycles are visibly truncated rather than mislabeled.
