Method and pinned scope

This implementation pins the National Library of Medicine’s Citing Medicine, 2nd edition convention as a specific Vancouver-family reference format. It is not presented as every journal’s Vancouver variant. For more than six personal authors, it lists the first six followed by et al.

Supported source types: journal article, book, and webpage. Titles remain as entered. The tool does not invent capitalization, journal abbreviations, authors, dates, or missing metadata.

Authoritative style source

Limits and review

Manual metadata only. No DOI resolution, URL fetching, journal lookup, or abbreviation guessing occurs. Institution and publication requirements may vary.

Only http and https URLs are accepted. Civil dates are preserved without timezone conversion.

Worked example

Enter Jane Q. Smith, “A Practical Example,” Example Journal, 2026, volume 12, issue 3, pages 40–48, and DOI 10.1000/example. The result applies NLM Citing Medicine, 2nd edition rules for the supported source type and mode.
