Method and supported scope

AMA 11 uses author-number references. This bounded generator lists all authors through six and the first three plus et al for longer lists. Enter an NLM-style journal abbreviation when your publication requires one.

Supported source types are journal article, book, and webpage. Titles remain as entered; the tool does not invent capitalization, journal abbreviations, missing authors, or dates.

Authoritative style source

Limits and review

Institutional and journal adaptations can differ. Confirm the requested edition, system, source type, title capitalization, abbreviation, punctuation, and unusual authorship before submission.

DOIs are normalized to a bare DOI or resolver URL as required by this implementation. Civil dates are handled as entered without timezone conversion.

Worked example

Enter Jane Q. Smith, a journal article title, Example Journal, 2026, volume 12, issue 3, pages 40–48, and DOI 10.1000/example. The generated reference changes author order and punctuation according to AMA Manual of Style, 11th edition.
