Reference-based measurement error

Percentage Error Calculator

Compare an experimental or measured value with an accepted reference. This is different from percentage difference, which compares two peer values symmetrically.

Method, privacy, and limits

The calculator uses |measured − accepted| ÷ |accepted| × 100. The accepted value is the reference, so zero is rejected because the standard result is undefined. Negative values, decimals, and scientific notation are accepted when finite.

The result is absolute percentage error; signed error is deliberately omitted from V1. Calculations use JavaScript double-precision arithmetic and display up to 12 significant digits. Inputs and results remain in memory and are not sent, stored, or added to the URL.
