Formula and method
The empirical formula is parsed locally with the site’s fixed 118-element atomic-weight table. Molecular mass ÷ empirical mass must be within 0.02 of a positive integer.
Worked example
CH2O has approximate empirical mass 30.026 g/mol. With 180.156 g/mol, the multiplier is 6 and the molecular formula is C6H12O6.
Limitations
Supports element symbols, positive integer subscripts, and nested parentheses. Hydrates, charges, isotopes, phase labels, and dot notation are rejected.
