Where's the bus headed? We're going to the prisons. Why are you going to the prison? Uh we bring families up there to see their loved ones.
How much do you charge? Uh we don't charge them anything. It's free. It's free?
Yep. Why is it free? I've been incarcerated before, so I know how it is to [music] not have a visit, and I know the trauma that it creates. Did that happen to you?
Yep. How many families are riding today? Yes, two. Do you think it'll make a big impact?
Yes. So, do you own the bus? Yes, sir. With your own money?
My own money. How much was it for a bus? A lot. [laughter] So, it doesn't bother you that you have to pay money out of pocket to take people?
No, because I understand the mission. Do you have a nonprofit that you You do? What's the nonprofit called? Uh The Missing [music] Piece Collective.
So, when you came home, why didn't you just move on with your life? Why did you do this? [music] I've had friends that have committed suicide, and it's because of the trauma. People would rather themselves than ever go back to prison, so You've had those thoughts?
Yes, sir. You don't feel like that anymore, do you? No. So, do you get enough money to provide for your family?
[music] I get nothing from this. You get nothing? Nothing. How are you providing, bro?
Doing what I have to do. Really? Yep. Are you married?
Yep. Does she work full-time, too? Yep, for the organization. So, both of you guys do?
Yep. You got kids? I got three kids. Three kids.
[music] What would this have meant to you when you were in prison? It would have meant a lot. Took away a lot of the stuff that I deal with now. You still deal with stuff from prison?
Yeah. When did you get out? Uh three year August, three years ago. How much is a full tank of gas?
[music] Probably about 120. Well, I want to give you this. So, not only can you fill the gas, but you can use the the leftover money to go towards your nonprofit. [music] Appreciate you, man.
It feels good to give somebody something and not expect something in return. What could that do for the families? Make you do a lot, because each visit heals. Not only heals one person, but it heals a family.
Be the change. Don't wait for the change to come. [music] Be the change. I love it.
Appreciate you, man. Hey. One love, baby. Appreciate [music] you, man.
Yeah.
