Keegan’s Community Support Story

Hey, you're okay? Yeah, a little bit of a struggle getting them out sometimes. [music] That's all. Can I help you?

Yeah, that'd be great. Can be a little heavy. Yeah, that is heavy. Yeah, it's really hard.

There you go. [music] The whole undercarriage is rusted. What? In fact, we had to have a family friend [music] install some steel bars underneath it to make it safe enough for my son to drive.

There's nothing they can [music] do to fix it. Are you worried about your son here? Very worried. But he has medical appointments and therapy appointments and I can't just not [music] take him to them.

Most importantly, his favorite thing in the world to do is to get out and [music] just drive, go for long drives. Primary diagnosis is cerebral palsy and he has epilepsy, [music] Chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, scoliosis, longer list than that, but those are his primary diagnoses. [music] So he lives with a lot every day. You take care of him every day?

Yeah, just me. You don't have Do you work? No, I'm not able to. You have to take care of him full time?

I have to stay home and care for Kegan. What are you doing to pay the bills? You know, we're just really lucky. [music] We find ways.

Other people, local churches, nonprofits, [singing] and He utilizes his eyes to talk. [music] So he was asking asking to go to his room as soon as we got home. Yeah, we're really blessed to get this. Do you want to say hi?

Okay. So he's [music] pretty obsessed. What's your dream for you and Kegan? Can I tell him what I want to do?

Have a new van that's reliable enough to drive him to California. California? My aunt lives in California [music] and I've never been able to go out and visit her. Oh, no.

More than anything, I just want to take him out to see [music] the ocean in California and drive it. How much are new vans? Ridiculous. They run between 80 and 100,000 dollars.

Is [music] that much? You have somebody else here that Oh, it's just the two of us. You're a single mom? Yeah, it's [music] always been just the two of us.

Oh my god. How are you doing it? Uh I'm just a mom. You know, I'm just a mom being a mom.

Wow. He wanted to kick back in his recliner. How did he? He's ready to be comfortable.

My biggest prayer is just for comfort and joy for Kegan. I just want him to be happy. Do you think he is? I think it's taken us 12 years to get to a point where where he is finally happy and enjoying life and I just want to keep it that way.

Yeah, I have I have some money with me and I wanted to give it to you. You don't have to do that. And I want to. I want to.
