DNA to RNA Converter

Convert a strictly validated coding or template DNA sequence to RNA with orientation shown.

Convert

Enter values and run the tool.

Formula and method

Coding DNA 5′ → 3′ is copied with T replaced by U. Template DNA must be entered 3′ → 5′ and is complemented to RNA 5′ → 3′ using A→U, T→A, C→G, and G→C.

Worked example

Coding DNA ATGCCAT becomes RNA AUGCCAU. Template DNA TACGGTA becomes RNA AUGCCAU.

Limits and assumptions

Strict A/C/G/T input only after removing formatting whitespace. No protein translation, mutation prediction, personal genomic analysis, ambiguity-code guessing, or clinical interpretation.

Method sources

NCBI Bookshelf on RNA transcription explains that polymerase reads the DNA template 3′ → 5′ and synthesizes RNA 5′ → 3′ with complementary nucleotides.
