Private browser-local text utility

Caesar Cipher Translator

Encode or decode Latin-letter text with a shift you choose. Case, spacing, punctuation, numbers, and unsupported Unicode characters stay intact.

Translate text

Maximum 50,000 UTF-16 code units. Processing starts only after you choose Translate.

Ready. Enter text and choose an action.

Method

For each ASCII letter, the tool moves its alphabet position by the selected shift modulo 26. Decode applies the inverse shift. A shift of 13 is ROT13; it is included here rather than owned by a separate page.

Worked example

With shift 3, HELLO becomes KHOOR. Decoding KHOOR with shift 3 returns HELLO.

Limitations

This is a classical educational substitution cipher, not secure encryption. Only ASCII A–Z and a–z are shifted; all other characters pass through unchanged.

Privacy and text handling

Processing is deterministic and browser-local. ASCII letter rules are explicit. Unsupported Unicode text passes through unchanged where the selected method permits it.

Shift reference

Shift 0 leaves letters unchanged. Shift 1 maps A to B. Shift 25 maps A to Z. The calculation wraps at the end of the alphabet.
