SemVer 2.0.0 rules
V1 requires MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH with optional prerelease and build identifiers. Core numeric values and numeric prerelease identifiers reject leading zeroes. Comparison follows major, minor, patch, release-versus-prerelease, and identifier precedence. Build metadata never affects precedence.
Very large numeric components are compared by normalized digit length and lexical order, avoiding JavaScript Number precision loss. npm ranges, caret/tilde syntax, wildcards, and dependency resolution are intentionally unsupported.
