Formula and method

Internal area A = πD²/4. Volume V = A × L, where D is the internal diameter and L is straight pipe length. Convert both dimensions to meters before multiplying. Results include cubic meters, liters, cubic feet, and U.S. gallons. One U.S. gallon equals 3.785411784 liters (NIST conversion reference).

Worked example

With a 0.1 m inside diameter and 10 m length, the internal area is about 0.00785398 m² and volume is 0.0785398 m³, or 78.5398 L.

Scope and limitations

This is a simple cylinder model. Nominal pipe size, wall thickness, fittings, valves, bends, trapped air, deformation, and partially filled conditions are not modeled. Check the actual inside diameter and geometry before using a capacity estimate.
