Simple-grid method

Orientation A fits floor(pallet length ÷ box length) × floor(pallet width ÷ box width) whole boxes. If rotation is enabled, orientation B swaps box length and width. The larger uniform-orientation count is shown; ties retain A. Whole layers = floor(entered maximum box-stack height ÷ box height). That height is the space above the pallet deck, not an overall loaded-pallet height.

Worked example

On a 48 × 40 in pallet, 12 × 10 × 8 in boxes fit 4 × 4 = 16 per layer in orientation A. A uniform 90° rotation fits 4 × 3 = 12 per layer, so A is chosen. A 48 in height available for boxes permits 6 whole layers, giving 96 boxes in this grid model.

Limitations

This does not optimize mixed box orientations, interlocking patterns, stability, overhang, pallet or box capacity, crush strength, load securing, or carrier rules. It is not a guarantee that the planned load can be safely stacked or accepted. Confirm physical constraints and use actual exterior box and usable deck dimensions.
