Method and worked example
For a linear inequality, isolate x and reverse the comparison when dividing by a negative coefficient. For a quadratic, find real zeros using the discriminant, then identify positive and negative intervals.
Example: 2x + 3 < 7 gives x < 2, or (−∞, 2).
Assumptions and limitations
Guided real-coefficient linear and quadratic forms only; no rational, absolute-value, or compound inequality parser.
Calculations run in this browser. The page does not upload entered values, add them to URLs, or save them to browser storage.
Common checks
- Confirm coefficient signs and the selected mode before interpreting the result.
- Remember that interval endpoints depend on strict versus inclusive comparisons or bounds.
- Keep full precision through the method; rounded display values are for reading.
