Method and worked example
A nonconstant linear function has all real inputs and outputs. A quadratic or absolute-value function has an extremum at y=k. A reciprocal function excludes x=h and y=k.
Example: For 2(x−1)²+3, domain is (−∞,∞) and range is [3,∞).
Assumptions and limitations
Only the four named guided families are supported. This is not a general expression solver, and piecewise unions need separate analysis.
Calculations run in this browser. The page does not upload entered values, add them to URLs, or save them to browser storage.
Common checks
- Confirm coefficient signs and the selected mode before interpreting the result.
- Remember that interval endpoints depend on strict versus inclusive comparisons or bounds.
- Keep full precision through the method; rounded display values are for reading.
