Method
Flat width = coverage × fullness. Fabric widths = ceiling(flat width ÷ usable width). Base cut length = finished length + heading + hem. A positive repeat rounds each cut up to the next full repeat.
Worked example
72 inches at 2× fullness needs 144 inches flat width. With 54-inch usable fabric, use 3 widths. A 96-inch cut per width totals 288 inches or 8 yards; a 27-inch repeat rounds cuts to 108 inches and totals 9 yards.
Limitations
This estimate excludes specialized pleating systems, returns, overlap arms, lining, interlining, railroading, pattern centering, and manufacturer-specific heading systems.
