Vehicle RPM Calculator
Estimate vehicle engine speed at a given road speed using tire rolling diameter and overall drive ratio.
Calculated result
Formula and method
Wheel RPM = speed (mph) × 1,056 ÷ [π × tire diameter (inches)]. Engine RPM = wheel RPM × transmission ratio × final-drive ratio. For metric tire size, diameter = rim inches + 2 × section width mm × aspect fraction ÷ 25.4.
Worked example
At 60 mph with a 26-inch tire, 1.00 gear and 3.73 final drive, the estimate is about 2,893 RPM.
How to use this calculator
Enter the requested measurements, choose the units, and select Calculate. Change values and calculate again to compare scenarios. Results keep full numeric precision internally and round only for display.
Limits and common questions
This assumes no converter slip, clutch slip, tire growth, or loaded-radius difference. Nominal tire size is not an exact rolling circumference.
Are these values measured or estimated?
They are calculations from the inputs you provide, not independent measurements of a particular vehicle.
Are my inputs saved?
No. This calculator works in your browser tab without an account, upload, or calculator-input storage.
