Power-to-Weight Ratio Calculator
Compare stated power with vehicle weight using explicit unit choices and several common ratio formats.
Calculated result
Formula and method
Power-to-weight ratio = power ÷ weight after unit conversion. 1 mechanical hp = 0.745699871582 kW; 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. Weight per horsepower is the reciprocal when horsepower is positive.
Worked example
300 hp and 3,000 lb equals 0.1 hp/lb, 100 hp per 1,000 lb, and 10 lb/hp.
How to use this calculator
Enter the requested measurements, choose the units, and select Calculate. Change values and calculate again to compare scenarios. Results keep full numeric precision internally and round only for display.
Limits and common questions
This ratio alone cannot predict acceleration. Traction, gearing, aerodynamics, drivetrain losses, grade, and measurement conditions matter.
Are these values measured or estimated?
They are calculations from the inputs you provide, not independent measurements of a particular vehicle.
Are my inputs saved?
No. This calculator works in your browser tab without an account, upload, or calculator-input storage.
